The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip reportedly told his son Prince Andrew to step down from royal duties for the sake of the monarchy during an intense Sandringham meeting.
The Duke is believed to have told Andrew to “take his punishment” for his alleged involvement in a seedy underage sex slave racket that was carried out by convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his pimp, Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of a former Mossad agent.
An insider told the Daily Telegraph that the Duke believed that Andrew had failed to live a simple life being a junior royal and had been too extravagant.
Apart from the Duke, Prince Charles also reportedly read the riot act to his brother as the backlash over his disastrous interview to the BBC – in which he defended himself using what many believe were flimsy excuses – increased.
According to a source, Charles is believed to have told Andrew that there was no way back for him in the near future.
Andrew was forced to resign from Royal duties late last month as fallout from his ill-conceived interview to BBC Newsnight threatened to damage the British monarchy.
In the interview, Andrew claimed to have “no recollection” of ever meeting his sex accuser, Virginia Roberts (now Giuffre), said that he could not sweat, contradicting what was claimed by Roberts, as he had an “overdose of adrenaline during the Falklands war” and that on a said night of their alleged sexual encounter, he had actually been at a pizza joint in Woking with his daughter Beatrice.
Critics flayed him for showing no remorse for his doomed friendship with Epstein despite his conviction and for showing zero empathy towards the underage victims of the scandal.
His reputation took a death blow after BBC Panorama later aired an earlier interview with Andrew’s accuser, Roberts, in which she reinforced her claims that Andrew slept with her on three different occasions, sweated like rain and was a horrible dancer.
To make matters worse for the Royal, an anonymous woman witness has now stepped forward saying that she saw Andrew dancing with Roberts at the Tramp nightclub in March 2001, cementing Roberts’ allegations.
The woman, who wishes to remain unidentified, has said that she was “just metres away from Andrew and Roberts” as they danced at the Mayfair nightclub.
She insists she has a vivid memory of the night as she was so close to a Royal. She also claims that Roberts did not look very happy to be in Andrew’s company.
Roberts claimed in her statement that it was on this night that Andrew took her to Ghislaine Maxwell’s home nearby in Belgravia where the alleged sexual encounter took place. It was also here that the now infamous photo of Andrew with his arm around her was clicked.
